Understand what Room Monitor does
Room Monitor uses a live camera feed to preview a scene and detect motion. When monitoring is enabled, the app may save still images, video clips, and, if microphone recording is enabled, audio. Pre-motion buffering can include images, video, or audio from before an event was confirmed.
Its on-screen monitoring and recording badges and optional audible recording chime provide useful information, but they may not be seen or heard by everyone in the monitored area. For example, the display may not be visible or sound may be muted or routed elsewhere.
Notify people who may be monitored
As the operator, you are responsible for providing appropriate notice to people who may enter or occupy the monitored area. Clear, visible signage is strongly recommended. A separate physical recording light or other visible indicator may provide additional notice, but is not required by Room Monitor itself.
Provide any notice and obtain any consent required by applicable laws, workplace policies, agreements, or other rules. Audio recording can raise additional consent requirements, including for people outside the camera's view.
Choose appropriate locations and protect recordings
Use Room Monitor only where monitoring and recording are permitted. Respect others' privacy, particularly in spaces where individuals reasonably expect privacy. Control access to the camera, microphone, event files, and any cloud-synchronized destination you select.
Operator acknowledgment
Before monitoring begins, Room Monitor asks its operator to acknowledge an understanding of these responsibilities. This acknowledgment does not establish that other people have received notice or consented, and it does not replace compliance with applicable law.
Printable notice: You can download a simple monitoring notice (PDF) for display near the monitored area. Adapt or supplement it if your circumstances require more detailed disclosure.
